Jordin Sparks is aware that her attempt to get Halle Berry to read her script about menopause has become a hot topic.
The “No Air” singer took to social media Wednesday to tell Berry that she had previously sent her a private message in an effort to get the Oscar-winning actress to read her screenplay. Sparks’ post went viral, with many users sharing their surprise that she would publicly single out the 59-year-old star for a request related to her age. Other individuals pointed out that the message may have stemmed from Berry having launched her Respin health platform that focuses on menopause care.
“Hiiii @halleberry!” the 36-year-old American Idol winner wrote on X. “I sent you a dm because I wrote a screenplay about hormones and menopause and know you’d be the right person to talk to about it! Hope you’re having a great day!”
The next day, Sparks returned to X to explain why she felt proud to have reached out to Berry. Sparks did not say whether Berry sent a private response, but the actress, who can be seen next month alongside Chris Hemsworth in Crime 101, did not appear to have replied on social media.
“Always ask — even if it scares you a little!” the singer wrote in her follow-up. “We’ve heard worse things than the word ‘no.’ It builds resilience and confidence. If you can’t take being told ‘no,’ you are going to have a tough time building character, courage and taking a shot at what you want! ‘Do or do not. There is no try.’”
Sparks, who won season six of American Idol in 2007, has continued her music career, in addition to appearing on Broadway and landing an array of screen roles. She voices a character in the animated feature The Pout-Pout Fish, which is set for release in March and also includes Nick Offerman and Amy Sedaris among its castmembers.
